“Ser” is used for … “Ser” is used for basic traits and permanent characteristics. Ser tells who the subject is.
Ex.
Yo soy americana.
I am american.
This is permanent because I will always be American, because I was born in America, and it tells who I am.
“Estar” is used for temporary conditions, things that will change. Estar tells where the subject is and how the subject feels.
Ex.
Yo estoy enferma
I am sick
Being sick is temporary, you won’t always be sick, you will get better.
