my husband and I have 4 and half month old son and we want to teach him spanish problem is neither of us speak spanish. My husbands family all speak spanish and english, but we dont see them enough for them to be able to teach my son to speak spanish. Does anyone know of any way for me to learn spanish with my son or to learn spanish and then teach it to my son?

Playing CDs with spanish songs aimed at children is a good way especially if you drive a lot and can play them in the car. You can generally get them in libraries.

You can make him watch or listen to videos in Spanish. For example, I would use biblical cartoon stories since I think they won’t harm your son and he’ll probably like it. You will probably learn too.

There are a lot of great programs available. I used Rocket Spanish, Learning Spanish Like Crazy, and Think Spanish magazine, as well as flash cards. To teach your son, I would start with simple words, and use pictures and say the word in English and then Spanish.

Well, you are in a very lucky position. The fact that your husbands family speaks Spanish is a plus!
To learn Spanish I would recommend Rocket Spanish or Learning Spanish Like Crazy. You can’t go wrong with these programs.
I hope this helps, otherwise do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Hi, I was in exactly the same position as you are..no Spanish whatsoever. I began with playing CD’s aimed at teaching kids Spanish, songs and rhymes. I played them in the background every day at home and moved onto kids Spanish books with songs and a translation of the songs which helped me heaps. I then started using basic Spanish grammar books to teach myself the basics and bought flashcards for kids, showing them to my son and saying the name of the picture out loud to him. This way we both learned. I have now set up a website letting people know of the best resources to learn with a child, take a look and congratulations on taking the step to teach your child Spanish.
Good luck and have fun
