I began with playing CD's aimed at teaching kids Spanish, songs and rhymes. I played them in the background every day at home and moved onto kids Spanish books with songs and a translation of the songs which helped me heaps. I then started using basic Spanish grammar books to teach myself the basics and bought flashcards for kids, showing them to my son and saying the name of the picture out loud to him. This way we both learned. I have now set up a website letting people know of the best resources to learn with a child, take a look and congratulations on taking the step to teach your child Spanish.
