I am learning spanish but would like to know what language next to spanish would be essential to learn in the travel/hospitality industry.
I agree with Gervasio. It definitely depends on what are you plan on working in. If you are going to work in an area which is heavily visited by people from French, then French would be good. Or if it’s visited by more Germans, then German (although the majority of them speak very good English). An Asian language (Japanese, Chinese dialect, Korean) would probably be another good idea because they often vacation in English-speaking areas.

I told me friend that it was more useful to know Chinese because of business and China has more people then any country in the world, but he said its better to learn Spanish because the United States is so close to a Spanish speaking country. Which Langauge is more useful? i need help for planning for my classes for next year!
It depends on where you want to work in the future.
I personally recommend Chinese especially if you are not thinking of staying in the states in the future, and if you are not going to apply to countries where Spanish is the main language. Not to mention, Chinese is becoming one of the most useful languages these days.
But keep in mind that when it comes to the Chinese language, there is a difference between Cantonese and Mandarin. Mandarin is more commonly used world-wide and it is a very useful language in the business world.
